The Lucy Dollhouse

How is my baby girl already 4 years old!? How have I kept a human alive for that long!? When Lucy saw me working on other dollhouses, she asked for one, too. I reminded her that she had the one I made her for Christmas (check it out here), but she wanted one of these dollhouses. If I can have a million purses, then I guess Lucy can have 2 dollhouses.

Literally, her only request was that the house be pink. That girl loves her pink so I used the same color I used to paint her vintage bed (SW Charming Pink). If you're new to my dollhouses, I just use the FLISAT dollhouse from IKEA. I was on a major time crunch (I only had 1 week to get this done in addition to planning her CandyLand party, which you can check out here) so I kept things pretty simple. Let's start the tour in the bedroom.

I kept it pretty simple in here because I wanted the focus on the chandelier and antlers above the bed.

How cute are those floral antlers!? I found tiny antler ornaments in the Christmas section of Hobby Lobby (because "it's totally normal to have Christmas stuff out in August" -no one ever). I glued the antlers and paper flowers to a small wood hemisphere. I think it turned out so cute, and it incorporates the pink/aqua colors from the rest of the house.

I love the nightstands; I'll definitely be using these again. I made them from wood candle holders and wooden circles, both found in the craft wood section of Hobby Lobby and stained them Old Barn Milk Paint in Weathered, which is the same stain I used throughout the house to provide continuity. The candle is a glass vial filled with real wax, and I painted a wood miniature pot aqua and added greenery from what I had around the house.

I made the bedding from fabric remnants and sone handy fabric glue.I adore the chunky throw Diane from Artizen Home made for me. The bed is from a set of furniture I found at Hobby Lobby. It had a canopy, but I took it off since it didn't work with the chandelier.

It took me close to 4 hours to make this beaded swag chandelier out of a bangle, floral wire, and white, pink, and gold beads. I thought Lucy would be so impressed when I showed her, but she just asked why the light didn't actually turn on. I just stared at her. I finished the room off with a pretty aqua vintage rug.

On to the bathroom. I think this is my favorite dollhouse bathroom I've done so far.

The vanity is actually the dresser that came with the bed. I added brass tubing as a faucet and a suction cup as a sink. The bath mat is just a piece of felt.

The bathtub is soap dish from Antique Farmhouse that I sprayed painted brass. The side table is also from the bedroom set, and I added a tea cup and glass vial of real bath salts.

The canopy is my favorite part of the whole house. It's a bangle that covered in gauzy fabric, and I think it adds such an elegant touch to this bathroom.

Let's move the tour downstairs to the kitchen and living room.

I had a lot of fun trying out a few new things in the kitchen. The table/island is actually the original farmhouse table I built for The Cotton Stem Dollhouse (check out that dollhouse here). I decided the legs were too chunky for that dollhouse but that it would make a great island in a future dollhouse.

The cabinets came from miniatures.com, and I painted them BM White Dove (the same color as my real kitchen cabinets). I wanted brass pulls for the hardware so I bought small brass eyelets from the jewelry department and cut brass tubing to size.

The vent hood is my favorite part of the kitchen because I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried cutting curves on my band saw on a scrap piece of 2x4. I added brass "ribbon" for more of a polished look. The mint stand mixer is from eBay.

I cut curved corner shelves that are holding plates, bowls, cups, and a pitcher, all ordered from eBay.

The base of the chairs were made from a poplar board and round dowels painted the same white I used in the rest of the kitchen. I used brass tubing for the backs of the chairs.

The last room to check out is the living room, which I think is such a fun combo of different styles. I've been trying to step out of my design comfort zone (farmhouse) and try other styles, and dollhouses are a perfect way to experiment.

The coffee table is actually a dining table from a different set, and I just used my mini table saw to cut the legs down. I spray painted the base brass and added marble contact paper to the top. I love the glass cloche (jewelry department) holding flowers. I chose a book about Paris for the coffee table book since my husband and I took an unforgettable trip there years ago.

I have always been fascinated with pointillist paintings ever since I took an art history class in college. I mean, come on, it takes more patience than working on dollhouses. I chose this Seurat painting set in Paris, and it's one of my all-time favorite paintings.

I tried something different for the fireplace and used my band saw to cut the curves from a scrap piece of 1x6 and painted it BM White Dove. I gathered firewood aka sticks from my parents' backyard and used my mini table saw to cut a ton of pieces to stack in the opening.

I hadn't planned on putting anything on the upper portion of the fireplace, but it seemed too flat. I thought this mini wreath from Hobby Lobby gave it great texture and dimension.

I also love this fun geometric tribal rug that is totally different from anything I would normally use. Most of my dollhouse rugs are just images I find and print onto velvet paper.

The couch was bought as a living room set from Hobby Lobby, and I just fell in love with it. It looks exactly like the sofa from Emily @bluelinencottage (check it out here). I used the same fabric from the bedding to make pillows for the couch.

Here's Lucy with her new dollhouse on her 4th birthday. I just love that sweet girl and how her pink princess dress matches her dollhouse.
