How to Easily Add Character to Your Table

When I built this 12' dining table, I knew it needed to be extra sturdy because duh. So I chose to wrap the apron around the outer part of the legs so the joint would be stronger. What that meant, though, was that I had exposed screws like this.

Obviously, I couldn't leave the table like that so I found black screw covers, but they looked so shiny and cheap. I needed a better solution.

When I made my farmhouse coffee table, I wanted to add some character with metal corner braces I got from Hobby Lobby. You can find the plans for my farmhouse coffee table here. I loved it so much that I found a larger version for my dining table that would cover the screws.

I was able to find 3 at my closest Hobby Lobby when they were half off, but they were sold out online. It took months before I was able to get 5 more at half off, but it finally happened! To complete this project, you'll need at least 1 bracket per corner (click here for the small bracket and here for the large bracket) and small screws (I used gutter screws because they were already a dark color, but you could also just spray paint the screws).

Hold the bracket where you want it to go and mark where the holes are with a pencil.

Use a drill bit slightly smaller than your screw and pre-drill your holes where the pencil marks are.

Then, use a drill or screwdriver to attach the screws.

That's it, y'all. Easy peasy project that's inexpensive but adds great character to your table. This whole project took me about 15 minutes and cost around $45 (I had to buy 8 of the larger brackets.) The coffee table accents only cost me about $20.
