Lucy's Big Girl Room Makeover

I might be a little biased, but this is the sweetest girl's bedroom I've ever seen. Lucy was getting too big for her toddler bed so it was time to upgrade to a big girl bed, which meant it was time to redecorate her room because, let's face it, I'll use any excuse to redecorate. I started by painting Sherwin Williams Lite Lavender above the chair rail and Sherwin Williams Mint Condition below.

Like most little girls, Lucy loves pink and purple so I knew I wanted it to be super girly. It all started with the bed frame, which was left behind in a rental property we purchased a few months back. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do with it. It was dark brown wood so a little Sherwin Williams Charming Pink paint fixed that. I used watered down gold paint to create a gold wash to highlight the details. The sweet ruffled quilt and purple pillow shams are from Steinmart. I was so excited to find the long pillow at Home Goods. It has the exact same colors as the rest of her room.

I've had that nightstand since I got out of college. It was also a dark brown with brushed nickel knobs. I like how the clean, modern lines contrast with the ornate curves of the bed. I painted it with Benjamin Moore White Dove (leftover from my kitchen cabinet makeover) and added long brass drawer pulls to tie in with the gold from the bed. The lamp is a Good Will find, and I bought an inexpensive lamp shade from Walmart. I've had the candlesticks for years that I bought from Kirkland's. The framed artwork is a tree with fingerprints from the people who attended Lucy's baby shower. The foot stool is from Decor Steals that I painted the same pink as the bed and recovered in fabric leftover from her window seat cushion.

I love this macrame wall hanging that ties in with the macrame swing on the opposite side of the room.

I painted the window surround with the same pink I used on the bed. I recovered her window seat cushion in sweet floral fabric and reused the pillows that were already there from her nursery. When Lucy isn't using her swing, I screwed a couple small white hooks into the chair rail so we can pull the swing back out of the way.

Now let's talk about the magic of this swing for a minute. I ordered it from Amazon for $70 (you can find it here), and it is now the favorite seat in the house. Rick and I will sneak in here at night and just swing before Lucy goes to bed.

I'm even thinking about putting one in our room. Just make sure you secure it to a joist in the ceiling. Depending on the rope you use, it can support up to 300 pounds. The pillows and blanket are from Steinmart.

Lucy loves to put on pretend makeup so I got her a big girl vanity and recovered the stool with the same fabric from the window seat.

I made embroidery hoop wreaths with similar colors to the rest of the room to go on either side of the window. You can find a hoop wreath tutorial here.

I love the metal post box we have in our living room so much that I bought an aqua one to hold pink tulips. The crown above the bed is from Antique Farmhouse, and I ordered the canopy from Amazon.

Lucy needed storage for her books and stuffed animals so I ordered these belly baskets from Walmart. You can find a tutorial here on how I painted them and added pom poms.

Lucy's room makeover turned out even better than I could have imagined. Lucy absolutely adores it and insists on showing anyone who comes to the house. We all love using the swing, and this has become my favorite room in the house.
