I noticed I'm more and more attracted to a modern, bohemian style. Farmhouse is still my bread and butter, but I've been incorporating a few touches of modern like these belly baskets for Lucy's big girl room makeover. I bought these from Walmart for a great price. Here is what they looked like when I got them.

They're cute already, but I wanted to add some paint and pom poms to go with Lucy's room. To paint the basket, you need to start by stuffing paper towels into the bottom half of the basket so paint won't bleed through to the upper half.

Next, collapse the basket so the upper half is hidden.

If you want a really crisp line at the halfway point, then use painters' tape, but I was fine with it being a little imperfect. Turn the basket over and paint the bottom first. I used leftover paint I had on hand from the rest of Lucy's room makeover.

Make sure to paint in all directions so the paint can get in all the nooks and crannies created by the weave. While the basket is upside down, paint almost all the way to the middle, wait a bit, and then do a second coat. Let it completely dry upside down.

Once it's dry, turn the basket right side up to paint along the middle line. I went slowly, especially at the edge.

I did 2 coats here as well and then let the basket dry completely. Once it's dry, pull the top half back out and dispose of the paper towels.

You could leave it like this, but I wanted to make it fun for a girls' room so I added pink and white pom poms I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I started by laying them out where I wanted them to go.

I just used hot glue to attach the pom poms, but use plenty of glue to make sure they are secured to the basket. I glued the one in the middle first to ensure all the pom poms would be evenly spaced between the two handles.

Finish gluing the pom poms in whatever pattern you want. I just wanted one row between the handles.

And, there you have it. Super cute painted baskets with pom poms that make great storage in a kid's room or a play room.
