I'm a sucker for IKEA. You just can't beat the prices, and I swear they come out with better stuff every year, even for a farmhouse decor loving gal such as myself. On my latest trip to IKEA (one of the many perks of living in Houston is that I have an IKEA within a half hour drive), I saw these RUNNEN deck tiles on my way to checkout. I just had to grab a box to see what I could come up with. You get a pack of 9 square foot tiles for $27.

To assemble, you just have to snap them together. Once you have the layout you want, you just use a small saw or razor to cut off the plastic on the outer edges.

They even offer a gray option:

I saw Holly @ourfauxfarmhouse use a cute rug to go under her welcome mat. I loved the added character it gave her front door so I knew I wanted to use these deck tiles for my front door mat. I snapped 6 of the tiles into a rectangle, and it was the perfect shape for my front door and Home Sweet Home welcome mat from Target.

I had 3 tiles leftover so I immediately started thinking about what I could do with them. I found some fun ideas on Pinterest, but I decided to use mine as "frames" for art in my guest bedroom. I bought 3 5x5 frames from Michaels when they were half off. Since it's spring time, I've really been loving beehives and lavender. I found 3 images on Google that were perfect and modified them to fit my frames. I'm sure this is violating all sorts of copyright law, but since the pictures are just for my house, I'm going to allow it.

The 5x5 frames were a little too small for the deck tile "frames," so I used my table saw to cut the tiles down. I used hot glue to attach the frames to the deck tiles (my frames are front loading so I can still change out the artwork without removing the frames from the deck tiles. The plastic grid on the back is perfect for hanging the deck tiles with small tack nails. And, voila! Interesting wall art on the cheap.

You could also use them individually as plate chargers, especially for a fun outdoor setting.

Or, you could use them as a plant stand.

I found some good ideas on Pinterest, too. The original idea that made me think of using these tiles for something other than a deck was this spa bath mat from House of Hepworths.

Here are some other ideas I found:

A cool accent wall using the grey tile they offer.

A large outdoor checkerboard.

You can paint the tiles to make an interesting floor for a mudroom.

And, of course, the original purpose: flooring for an outdoor deck.
What other uses can you think of for this versatile deck tile from IKEA?
