I have never decorated a bedroom for Christmas. I usually feel so overwhelmed trying to decorate the common areas of the house all on Black Friday that it just doesn't even cross my mind. This year, I broke my cardinal rule about Christmas decorating: I started decorating before Thanksgiving. I know, I know. But I love doing DIY projects and I tend to change my mind a few times once I see everything in place. Decorating early allowed me the opportunity to take my time with some of my DIY projects and to have everything just how I wanted it when an appropriate time for Christmas decor rolled around.

My idea for the bedroom was a cozy bed and breakfast so I stuck with red and cream plaid and small touches of Christmas around the room. The plaid pillow covers can be found here for a steal of a deal. The cream pillows with the buttons are from IKEA and can be found here.

I loved making the book wall festive (find the book wall tutorial here). I made the Kris Kringle Bed & Breakfast sign, but it was inspired by signsofhopear, and you can find theirs here.

I have these red berries all over my house so I like how it brings all my Christmas decor together. I just took some cheap sprigs from Hobby Lobby, but them apart a bit, and stuck them behind some pages.

I added a prelit garland above the shiplap headboard (free instructions found here). That gorgeous red throw came from IKEA! Can you believe it!? IKEA has really upped their game in the last few years. You can find it here.

The white tree on the nightstand came from Target a few years ago. The Charlie Brown Christmas tree (that's what I call it since it looks a little raggedy) is from Walmart.

For the reading nook, I have a deerskin rug on the floor and a ridiculously cozy merino wool throw from Diane at Artizen Home. You need this blanket in your life, and you can find it here. I used my vintage wood crate I grabbed at a yard sale for $5 to hold a couple cozy pillows.

On the other side of the room, I placed the tree so we can stare at the twinkly lights from bed. This is a 6' pre-lit tree I got from Walmart for $40! I already had the red bucket from Michaels. The base that came with the tree most definitely did not fit in that bucket. I wish you could have seen me trying to make it work. Eventually, I removed the plastic legs and superglued the base to the bottom of the bucket. Then I used dumbbells to hold it in place. I topped it off with a fleece blanket so you can't see the craziness beneath.

This wreath always sits on my blanket ladder from Harp Design Co., but I wanted to define it as a Christmas wreath so I added more of the red berries I used on the book wall.

I am madly in love with this dough bowl I bought from Decor Steals. For fall, it looked gorgeous filled with pumpkins, but I wanted to use it differently in here. Initially, I had the idea to hang a small wreath on it, but since I already have a wreath on top of the blanket ladder, that was a no go. Instead, I hung this red stocking on it with a pushpin. It ties in perfectly with the red throw I have on the bed.

I wanted to keep the tree simple so I just added plaid ribbon from Hobby Lobby that matches the plaid pillowcases on the bed (you can find the pillowcases here).

The bed tray (you can buy it from me here) holds a couple cute Rae Dunn mugs and a priceless ceramic gift that I have had for as long as I can remember. A couple years ago, I raided my parents' Christmas decorations, taking anything that had sentimental value. I can remember this ceramic gift in every Christmas of my life. It was usually filled with a sweet treat, which made it even more special.

If you've made it this far, bless your heart, and thanks for sticking around. I hope you've enjoyed the glimpse into my country Christmas bedroom.
